Trends for spring and summer season 2016
Trends for this spring and summer 2016 season are fun and varied, and one of the hottest new styles is using sleepwear as outerwear. Flowing garments in silky, satiny, shimmering fabrics with tons of lace, and very feminine, are no longer confined to the bedroom. They can be proudly worn by a confident woman just about anywhere. Keeping in the feminine mode ruffles made from flimsy fabrics with lots of movement add a romantic air to this year’s wardrobe and there’s lots of sexy Latin influence with frills and flowing fabrics. Necklines range from plunging to high ruffles and flouncing sleeves and bouncing hems embellish the beauty of the female figure. Translucent and transparent fabrics are popular and there are lots of bows, particularly oversized ones, at the chest, neck or waist along with knots and lace-ups add to the feminine beauty.
Bare shoulders are definitely this year’s hottest trend from daily wear to wedding dresses. Shoulder cut-outs, off the shoulder, asymmetrical necklines, strapless, and single straps, all let you show off some shoulder and extra skin. Sheer panelling, peek-holes, mesh, lace and crochet are also hot, and garment s including these fabrics should be worn over simple black underwear to enhance the contrast of the bare skin. Wow!
The waistline is emphasized this season and can be accentuated with a synched waistline or highlighted with the unusual paper bag waist. Legs are also showcased with center slits, ending just above the knee, and very high side slits. Puffed up Victorian style sleeves are popular as are maxi skirts and dresses with layers, pleats, prints and slits. Floral print prairie dresses make a comeback and crumpled fabrics, pre-creased and rumpled have returned to the joy of those who hate ironing! Pleats, micro pleats, knife pleats and knifed hems however are also hot and these contrast with their precise clean forms.
In practical work wear the 2016 season sees lots of Linen, especially in pants suits in soft subtle colors. Boxy jackets, which are roomy but fitted and cropped to the waist are worn with wide cropped pants, and capes and robes are also popular. There is a strong marine influence with lots of tones of blue like indigo, blue hydrangea and periwinkle, with contrasting white stitching, buttons and embellishments. Other hot shades this season include marigold, custard, persimmon, and orange shades in general.
For the daring there are bold power suits in bright colors with strong prints, stripes, wide shoulders and accompanied with playful ties, and there is a range of geeks and nerds fun wear in sparking shimmery glittery fabrics with strong colors. Gamine style or genderless clothing featuring bizarre combinations are also strong this year. Other rather strange touches this season include loose strings hanging from tops, shirts and pants, and frayed or raw hems which make the garment appear to be inside out! Suede remains big adorned now with fringes and made more exciting with cut-outs and high-waisted leather mini-skirts with fringes, and fringed hems in general are back.
2016 sees many variations of the simple oxford shirt, now coming in a range of subtle shades and with quirky original touches and it is this year’s indispensable garment to wear underneath a fantastic range of 90’s style bra tops. Couple these with jeans with frayed hems and flowery patches and you’re ready to hit the street!
